Arts and Social Sciences Library

We were instructed following a competitive tender process, to carry out a comprehensive remodel and refurbishment of part of the ground floor of the Arts and Social Sciences Library along with refurbishment to offices within the basement and on the first floor. Works included extensive strip out and demolition of the site areas, the formation of a new 80-desk quiet study place, and Male, Female and Disabled WC facilities. The works also involved refurbishment of various offices throughout the building, and acoustic treatment works to cafeteria area. Works included light strip out of areas including stud and glazed partitions, ceilings, M&E and extensive demolitions of dividing concrete walls around the toilet block area. New metal stud and glazed partition walls were then built, and disturbed surfaces were prepared and skimmed. Some partitions included acoustic treatment. Extensive Mechanical & Electrical works were carried out. Electrical works included power, data, lighting and fire alarms. Mechanical included ventilation, air conditioning, below ground drainage and sanitary ware. Finishes included new carpentry, joinery and cubicle systems, suspended ceilings, decorations, and floor coverings. Specialist acoustic treatments included joinery-made acoustic slatted walls with sound insulation inside and acoustic raft panels helping to deaden sound.
