Clifton Campus Residence

In July 2019 following a competitive tender process we were awarded the 8 week contract to undertake refurbishment of the basement area of a Residence on the Clifton Campus of University of Bristol. The project entailed the re-purposing of former living accommodation within the Grade II* listed hall of residence in to student lounge and study space. We also refurbished three shower rooms within the vicinity. Works included light strip out of existing chatels and finishes, plumbing alterations and electrical re-wiring. Prior to works beginning listed buildings consent was achieved by the client. In accordance with the approval all making good / fabric works / decorative works had to be sensitively completed using traditional materials such as lime morters, plasters, joinery and paints including. For example we had a local joinery supply and fit a fully certified panelled fire doors to two areas to fully match existing. The areas then received new finishes including full redecorations, applied art works and graphics, floor coverings, light fittings, suspended acoustic ceiling rafts and loose furniture. The project was completed early September 2019 following a 2 week mutually agreed extended programme to cover the additional lath and lime plastering works required to ceilings following the removal of a dividing wall within one of the areas to allow sufficient drying times. However all other areas were handed over within the 8 week contract period. The works were procured to us under a JCT Minor Works Contract and the final account was in the region of £215,000. Throughout the project our team worked closely with the client and project stakeholders. Our transparent collaborative approach was key and the engaged and passionate team maintained positive constructive relationships throughout and beyond completion.
