Bio Medical Sciences

Following a competitive tender process, we were instructed to carry out the internal general remodel and refurbishment of B100-B106 within the School of Bio-Medical Sciences. The scope was to form research laboratories and associated office space. To add to the complexity of the works, the area was located within an occupied building including live laboratories above and below the site. All works had to be carefully planned and carried out in a manner so as not to affect the day-to-day running of neighbouring laboratories, along with the operational activities of this busy building. An access platform was constructed of scaffolding to enable access and egress to the area through an external window to segregate activities from those of the main building. The area was soft stripped including removal and alteration of existing Mechanical and Electrical. Block walls were then demolished and all waste carted to skips. The areas were then refurbished and remodelled including stud partitioning, replacement glazing panels to those with penetrations, new Mechanical, Electrical and Data installations, walls plastered, new doors and frames installed including glazed screens, secondary glazing, suspended ceilings and vinyl floor coverings. New lab benching and office furniture were also installed along with blinds. The works also included the extension of the existing fridge room.
