Challenge

The project involved the refurbishment of an existing accessibility centre, which is used to hire mobility equipment for shoppers.

The works required the demolition and replacement of internal and external features, while ensuring minimal disruption to mall operations.

The inclusion of a new mobility scooter testing zone and external drainage alterations added additional complexities.

Approach

Our team prioritised clear communication and precise planning to deliver the works within the tight nine-week timeframe. Collaboration with the mall management team ensured seamless execution of both internal and external refurbishments while maintaining accessibility throughout the project.

The works included:

Demolition of redundant partitions and suspended ceilings

Complete re-wire and installation of a new air conditioning system

Installation of new suspended ceilings and LED lighting throughout

Creation of a new kitchenette and application of vinyl flooring

Full internal redecoration to refresh the centre’s appearance

Rendering of the external façade and installation of a new external lighting scheme

Alterations to paving and drainage to support the creation of a dedicated mobility scooter testing zone

Sustainability

Energy-efficient LED lighting and the installation of a modern air conditioning system contribute to reduced energy consumption, aligning with sustainable construction practices.

Results

The project was successfully completed on time and within budget in March 2020. The refurbished accessibility centre now offers improved functionality, modern facilities, and a dedicated testing area, enhancing the experience for mobility equipment users.
